What Is PEP?

PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) is an antiretroviral drug for HIV-negative people who have had a recent, single high-risk contact. Taking PEP can protect you from becoming HIV positive by preventing the virus from replicating within your body.

When should you take PEP?

PEP treatments should be started within 36 hours of contact, but it must be taken within 72 hours. Treatments are taken for 28 days after a potential HIV contact.
