Test kits can only be sent to the following parishes: Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany, St. Bernard, St. John the Baptist, St. Charles, St. James, or Plaquemines. If you are outside these areas or Louisiana, free or low-cost HIV test kit providers are available.

- You must be at least 14 years old to order a test kit
- Kits can only be sent to the following parishes: Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany, St. Bernard, St. John the Baptist, St. Charles, St. James, or Plaquemines. If you are outside these areas or Louisiana, free or low-cost HIV test kit providers are available.
- Test kits will not be shipped when the temperature is below 35º or above 80ºF.
- Store unopened OraQuick® Rapid HIV-1 Antibody Tests at 35º-80ºF (2º-27ºC).
WHAT IS AN AT-HOME HIV TEST KIT?
An At-Home HIV Test Kit is an antibody oral swab test that can be used at home or in a private location. With an At-Home HIV Test Kit, you can get your test results within 20 minutes.
AFTER YOU ORDER YOUR AT-HOME HIV TEST KIT A TESTING NAVIGATOR WILL CONTACT YOU WITHIN TWO BUSINESS DAYS OF RECEIVING AN AT-HOME HIV TEST KIT REQUEST.
- You can choose between a virtually-assisted testing appointment or a one-on-one testing appointment at a safe location.
- During the call, your Testing Navigator will guide you through setting up the testing space and process.
- Once the testing appointment is scheduled, the Testing Navigator will ensure the HIV At-Home Test Kit is properly packaged and deliver it in discreet packaging to your chosen destination.
- The Testing Navigator will conduct a courtesy call to ensure that you have received your At-Home HIV Test Kit.
- You should take the At-Home Test within 24 hours of receiving the kit, with the assistance of a Testing Navigator.
- If you miss your appointment, the Testing Navigator will contact you and attempt to reschedule your appointment within 24 hours.
HOW DO I TAKE THE HIV TEST?
- The Testing Navigator will instruct you on how to collect the specimen and perform the test during your appointment.
- After inserting your test device into the developer solution, your Testing Navigator will set a timer for 20 minutes.
- Once 20 minutes have passed, your Testing Navigator will ask you to remove the test device from the developer solution.
- Hold the results window up to your camera so that your Testing Navigator can help interpret the result.
- If the test is unable to be read, you will be asked to submerge the test in the solution or reposition it for a better view.
Test Results
If the HIV test result is NEGATIVE (non-reactive):
If your test result is negative, your Testing Navigator will be able to offer HIV prevention resources such as PrEP referral, condoms, and other essential support referrals. It is recommended to test regularly.
If the HIV test result is POSITIVE (reactive):
Your Testing Navigator will assist you in obtaining a second test to confirm the result and link you to care and services, if needed.
Resources are available to support with FREE medication, medical care, and supportive services for people living with HIV.

What does a negative HIV test result mean?
A negative result doesn’t necessarily mean that you don’t have HIV. That’s because it can take up to 90 days from HIV exposure to when a test can detect HIV in your body.
Doctors recommend getting tested every 90 days, if you are sexually active.

If I have a negative result, does that mean my partner is HIV-negative also?
No. Your HIV test result reveals only your HIV status.
Consider getting tested together so you can both know your HIV status and take steps to keep yourselves healthy.
If I test positive for HIV, does that mean I have AIDS?
If someone with HIV starts treatment early and takes their medications as prescribed, they can live long, healthy lives, and may never develop AIDS.
